Kaunertal: Experiencing nature
With its beautiful glacier and unspoiled environment the Kaunertal Valley ranks among the top holiday destinations in the province of Tirol. Awe-inspiring mountain scenery (with peaks of 3,000 meters and beyond) combines with heartfelt hospitality to create an offering travelers won’t resist. The valley comprises the villages of Kauns, Kaunerberg, Kaunertal and Fendels – each with its own, distinctive charm. In summer the area lends itself to walking and hiking, while winter comes with outstanding skiing on the Kaunertal Glacier. The Kaunergrat Nature Park makes for an unparalleled nature experience: Innumerable walking trails wind their ways through this place of outstanding natural beauty, allowing hikers to explore the local flora and fauna. A number of quaint mountain restaurants welcome walkers and hikers for a decent meal or refreshments.
Kaunertal: Winter scenery and glacier skiing
Snow-capped mountains, sparkling snow crystals, immaculate slopes and the prospect of a lunch stop at one of the cozy mountain restaurants and cabins draw nature and winter sports enthusiasts to the Kaunertal Valley. Skiing on the Kaunertal Glacier starts as early as October. The Weissseeferner slopes are at an altitude of 2,150 to 3,160 meters, and wide enough to ensure hassle-free skiing, carving and snowboarding for everyone. Those looking for more challenging terrain may head for the Karlesjoch slopes, which are easily accessible by gondola.
Thanks to a reliable snow cover, (corn snow) skiing on well-groomed slopes is possible until late in spring. The Fendels family ski area at the entrance to the valley caters especially for the needs of families and young skiers. Night skiing and tobogganing on illuminated tracks ensures fun for the old and young.
