The Spitzingsee ski area is popular among all sports fans in Munich, the Bavarian capital. A fine ski region offering varied ski slopes and demanding runs, 21 mountain lifts and practicing slopes. The ungroomed "Glaslhang" on the north-western slope of Wallberg attracts riders and freestylers from near and far. Other ski mountains like Oedberg, Hirschberg, Kirchberg and Sonnenmoos are renowned among novice skiers and families. Night skiing is available on Oedberg. Over 100 kilometers of cross-country skiing trails in the surroundings of lake Tegernsee attract nordic sport fans of all ages and abilities. The classic-style nordic track of Kreuth ranks among the most beautiful cross-country skiing routes, traveling through snow-covered winter landscapes and deep green forests towards Glashütte. Off the beaten tracks winter fans enjoy endless kilometers of signposted winter walking routes or indulge in scenic snowshoe hiking trails to the region's most idyllic spots. Culture lovers shouldn't miss out on a visit to the Tegernseer Tal museum that gives an insight into Ancient Bavarian history and traditions. The horse carriage, cart and sled museum is an absolute must.
